Have i damaged my apple tree by cutting off a root

shed base tree roots I had two large trees in my garden which i was advised to fell as the roots were damaging nearby pathways. this was done last march but the stumps and roots are still in place. the trees had trunks of around 18" diameter. i am planning to put a shed with a concrete base in the area where the trees were. no part of the shed will be over the stumps but each stump will have a shed corner about 12.
